District Counties Added For Individual Assistance For Hurricane
Ivan
Federal disaster
aid for individuals affected by Hurricane Ivan has been extended
to include Alamance, Alleghany, Ashe, Caswell,
Davidson, Forsyth, Graham, Guilford, Randolph,
Rockingham, Stokes, Swain, and Wilkes counties.
Affected individuals
and business owners may apply for assistance immediately by calling
the toll-free registration number, 1-800-621-FEMA (3362)
or 1-800-462-7585 (TTY) for hearing and speech impaired.
Registrars are taking applications 24 hours a day until further
notice. If the wait is long, please remember that others are affected
by on-going disasters around the country and are also calling to
register for assistance. The current non-peak calling times are
between midnight and 4:30 a.m.
A North
Carolina Disaster Relief Fund has also been established
to accept monetary donations. The fund is managed by the Governor's
Office, in partnership with the United Way of North Carolina. There
is no administrative cost associated with the fund, and 100 percent
of the donated funds will go to the victims. Make checks payable
to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund and mail them to:
