GOVERNOR
KERNAN IS PUTTING HOOSIERS AT RISK
Drug importation will open access to counterfeit drugs; weaken
FDA safety measures
Plainfield,
IN-This morning,
expressing concern that Governor Kernans new proposal supporting
drug importation puts Hoosiers at risk, Congressman Steve Buyer
(IN-04)
held a press conference at the IUPUI Conference Center. Congressman
Buyer, a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on
Health, presented counterfeit drugs seized during inspections by
the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Customs
that illustrate that the importation of drugs is a health risk to
the state.
Any move
toward the importation of drugs by Indiana will put Hoosiers
health at risk. Its that simple. Should Governor Kernans
plan be put in motion, it will open access to counterfeit drugs
and weaken the assurances guaranteed by the FDA, Buyer stated.

1400 Hoosiers take advantage of the event
Washington,
D.C.-By
the end of the day, approximately 1400 people came to yesterday’s
2004 Hoosier Job Fair at Franklin College. They were met by over
ninety businesses, offering 1000 jobs, in such wide ranging and
diverse areas as manufacturing, financial and medical.

of the job fair was dependent on so many factors-the job seekers
putting their faith in the event, the businesses that participated,
and Franklin College who provided such great support. I thank Franklin
College President Moseley, the faculty and the staff for helping
us put together this amazing event that I am certain will help hard
working Hoosiers take that next step toward job security,” Buyer

in
Presidential elections
Washington,
D.C.-After
a stunning request was made by eleven Democratic Members of the
U.S. House of Representatives for the United Nations to monitor
the 2004 Presidential Elections, Congressman Steve Buyer (IN-04)
offered an amendment to H.R. 4818, the Foreign Operations Appropriations,
to prohibit federal executive officials from asking the UN
to have any authority in determining the outcome of our electoral
process.

Buyer’s statement is as follows:
ACTIVE
DUTY SERVICEMEMBERS TO RECEIVE
HELP WITH AUTO LEASE
Auto
leases may be terminated and help families’ finances
Washington,
D.C.-Servicemembers
on active duty have one less thing to worry about while they are
serving their country. Legislation authored by Congressman Steve
Buyer (IN-04)
and signed into law by President George W. Bush, brings immediate
help to those called to active duty in operations like those in
Iraq and Afghanistan.
Currently, servicemembers
called to active duty for periods of time over 180 days or those
who receive orders for a change of station outside the continental
United States are allowed by law to terminate housing leases without
penalty. Unfortunately, until now, the same has not been true with
automobile leases.
