Senate Passes Etheridge Legislation Honoring Father of the Airborne

WASHINGTON - October 14, 2004
Late Sunday night the U.S. Senate unanimously passed U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge's (D-Lillington) legislation to name the Dunn Post Office the "General William Carey Lee Post Office," in honor of a Dunn native who was the Father of the Airborne. The legislation now moves to the President's desk for his signature.

"I am pleased that the Senate unanimously passed this legislation honoring a true North Carolina hero," Etheridge said. "GeneralWilliam Carey Lee was a small town boy who became a big time hero. His impact on our military, our security and our community was profound. General William Carey Lee exemplifies what we call North Carolina values -- faith in God, love of country and commitment to duty. I am certain that the President will sign into law this fitting tribute for the Father of the Airborne."

Etheridge: After Years of Work, Buyout a Reality for Farm Families

WASHINGTON - October 11, 2004
U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) today celebrated the U.S. Senate's passage of the conference report for H.R. 4520, including a $10.1billion tobacco buyout for North Carolina's farm families, by a vote of 69 to 17. Etheridge, a part-time tobacco farmer and a member of the House Agriculture Committee, has planned a meeting with farmers on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Clayton to give farmers all the details on the legislation.

Etheridge Statement on Federal Marriage Amendment

WASHINGTON - September 30, 2004
U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) issued this statement today in response to the U.S. House's vote today on House Joint Resolution 106, a constitutional amendment on same-sex marriage. The legislation failed to garner the necessary two-thirds vote.

"I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. Today I voted for this amendment to protect North Carolina laws and North Carolina values."

Etheridge Votes for Tax Cuts for Middle Class

WASHINGTON - September 24, 2004
U.S. Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) voted last night to provide tax relief for North Carolina's middle class families by supporting the conference report on H.R. 1308, "All American Tax Relief Act," which passed by a vote of 339 to 65. The legislation ensures that working families continue to receive a tax credit of $1,000 per child, that married couples are not penalized by the tax code and that more people continue to qualify for the lowest tax rate of 10 percent.
