10/8/2004 Continued Jobs Growth and Low Unemployment -
WASHINGTON, October 8, 2004 ---- The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today that payroll employment increased by 96,000 jobs last month. The increase occurred despite the adverse effects of four hurricanes that hit the U.S. in August and September.
The BLS also announced that its previous estimates had understated the amount of jobs growth from March 2003 to March 2004 by 236,000 jobs. The combination of revisions shows that payroll employment has increased by over 1.9 million jobs since August 2003.

10/5/2004 Hyde Will Vote 'No' on Effort by Democrats to Reinstate the Military Draft -
WASHINGTON, October 5, 2004 ---- Today the House of Representatives is expected to vote on a bill introduced by the Democrats to reinstate the military draft. The Republican House leadership is bringing this bill to the floor for a vote to put a stop to the reports that the Bush Administration is considering reinstating the draft.
Congressman Henry Hyde, R-Ill., and most members of Congress vehemently oppose this bill, which was introduced by Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y. with 14 Democrat co-sponsors.

9/24/2004 Medicare Needs Seniors for Cancer-Drug Demonstration Project -
WASHINGTON, September 24, 2004 ---- Although full Medicare prescription drug benefits are set to begin in 2006, Medicare officials are looking for seniors to participate in a demonstration project that could save seniors up to 90 percent off cancer-fighting drugs.
Unfortunately, time is running out for seniors to apply for the demonstration project. The deadline is Sept. 30.
