Mica Announces Federal Anti-Drug Grant Recipients in the District
(9/27/04) Washington, DC - Rep. Mica today announced that three locations in the 7th District will receive federal grants to combat juvenile drug abuse.  Community anti-drug coalitions in Putnam, Flagler, Volusia and St. Johns Counties will all receive funding for drug education, counseling and intervention in Central and Northeast Florida.

House Subcommittee Approves Aviation Security Legislation
(9/15/04) Washington, DC - Chairman John L. Mica held a hearing of the House Aviation Subcommittee to approve legislation to further strengthen our aviation security system.  This bill combines recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and legislation previously introduced by Rep. Mica to protect against future terrorist attacks.

Castillo de San Marcos Bill Passes House of Representatives
(9/13/04) Washington, DC - The House today passed HR 2457 which authorizes federal funding for museum and visitor facilities to be constructed to serve guests at the 16th century fortress located in St. Augustine, Florida.  This monument is the oldest exisiting permanent seacoast fortification in the United States.

Mica Announces $12.8 Million Disaster Funds for East Central Florida Airports
(8/26/04) Orlando, FL - Rep. John Mica today announced that $12.8 million in federal grants will be provided to Orlando, Sanford-Orlando and Daytona Beach International Airports.  These initial funds will be used to rebuild aiport terminals and other aviation facilities damaged by Hurricane Charley.

Rep. Mica Chairs Aviation Hearing on the 9/11 Commission Report
(8/25/04) Washington, DC - Aviation Subcommittee Chairman John Mica held a hearing on the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.  With testimony from Commissioner John Lehman, this hearing helped to identify areas to improve our nation's aviation security.

Shoulder-Fired Missile Legislation Unanimously Passed in House
(7/22/04) Washington, DC - The House unanimously passed legislation introduced by Rep. Mica that requires commercial aircraft to have countermeasures on board to protect against the threat posed by shoulder-fired missiles (MANPADS).
