September 23: Grant
Awarded to Kinmundy Public Library
Congressman John Shimkus visited the Kinmundy Public Library,
a member of the Shawnee Library system, on Monday, September
20, and formally presented a $92,000 grant to the board of trustees
of the library and the Kinmundy City Council. The grant is being
awarded through the USDAs Rural Impact Initiative Grant
Program and will be used to expand the librarys current
building.

Shimkus Showcases .kids.us website
Congressman John Shimkus and his 4-year-old son, Daniel,
visited the Greenville College Technology 544 class. Mr.Shimkus
brought Daniel to demonstrate the www.kids.us
website to the class. The Greenville College Masters of
Arts in Teaching class meets on Thursday evenings at Central
Junior High School in Belleville. |
September 10: Congressman
Shimkus Meets With Sec. Rumsfeld
This morning, Congressman Shimkus had a meeting with Defense
Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. On September 11, 2001, The Secretary
invited several Members of Congress, including Rep. Shimkus,
to an early morning meeting at the Pentagon. That meeting concluded
just moments before American Airlines Flight 77, from Washington,
DC to Los Angeles crashed into the Pentagon with 64 people aboard.
Those same members and Secretary Rumsfeld met this morning recall
the events of September 11th and to discuss the progress and
challenges ahead with the War on Terror. "Tomorrow, I will
join with many of you in honoring those who lost their lives
and were injured on the 11th. They continue to be in my prayers
as do the soldiers and families sacrificing today in our War
on Terror" said Mr. Shimkus. Click

September 8: Millions of Dollars in Grants for Illinois'
19th District
Congressman Shimkus is pleased to announce that millions of
dollars in federal grants have been awarded to the 19th Congressional
District. These grants are going to serveral worthwhile organizations
and community groups for things such as fire departments, library
additions, housing authorities, fighting drugs and crime prevention.
