Government Reform Committee Adopts Van Hollen Amendments to 9-11 Commission Legislation

The House Government Reform Committee adopted two amendments to H.R. 10, the “9/11 Recommendations Implementation Act,” offered by Congressman Van Hollen. The first would require the President to identify the foreign language translation deficiencies in the federal government and develop a plan to address the problem. The second amendment requires the President to establish a network to ensure that federal agencies share the terrorism related information they collect and analyze. More...

Bethesda and Germantown Residents Join Van Hollen and House Democrats in Unveiling New Partnership for America’s Future

Congressman Van Hollen joined other House Democrats and Americans from across the country in unveiling the New Partnership for AmericaÕs Future. This new agenda was developed by House Democrats to address the needs of todayÕs middle class families, including good jobs, affordable health care and safe communities. Van Hollen was joined at the event by Craig Rice of Germantown who spoke about the budget deficit and government accountability. Rice has been working on these issues in Montgomery County.Congressman Van Hollen joined other House Democrats and Americans from across the country in unveiling the New Partnership for America’s Future. Van Hollen Presents Award to BCC Music Director

Congressman Van Hollen presented the Heroes Award to Bethesda-Chevy Chase (B-CC) High School Music Director, Marshall White at "GRAMMYs on the Hill", the Recording Academy's signature advocacy event. The award honors individuals and institutions who have made an impact on and helped to improve the creative community. B-CC is a GRAMMY Foundation Signature School. The GRAMMY Foundation's signature school program selects the best public school music programs in the country for recognition and grants. Billion Dollar Student Loan Abuse

The House of Representatives recently passed an amendment to the Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill, offered by Representatives Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Dale Kildee (D-MI), to close a loophole in the federal student loan program that will cost the American taxpayers $1 billion this year alone. Congressman Van Hollen selected Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman of the National Center for Children and Families in Bethesda as a 2004 Angel in Adoption. The Angel in Adoption program is designed to raise awareness about the thousands of foster children in this country, and the millions of children around the world in need of permanent homes.
