Research Project:
Chemistry and Gaseous Loss of Nitrogen in Different Soils and Production Systems
Location:
Vegetable and Forage Crops Production Research
Project Number: 5354-21660-001-03
Project Type:
Specific C/A
Start Date: Jul 14, 2003
End Date: May 31, 2006
Objective:
The chemical reactions that influence the fate and transport of applied nitrogen for a given crop production system are dependent on various climatic and management factors. In-depth investigations on the volatilization loss of nitrogen will be investigated in a hot, humid, high rainfall environment under vegetable production. This study will compliment the ongoing N fate and best management studies in the dry, irrigation dependent vegetable production systems in the Pacific Northwest.
Approach:
Controlled and in-situ experiments will be conducted in south Florida under vegetable production to evaluate the volatilization loss of nitrogen. The effects of climatic and management variables on the N volatilization loss will be evaluated. Documents SCA wuth U. of FL Homestead. Formerly 5354-13610-002-03S (1/04).
