There's no fountain of youth

our mission
Since 1981, the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) has helped scientists begin and further careers in aging research and geriatric medicine.

Our mission is to promote healthier aging through biomedical research. We fulfill this mission by:

Supporting biomedical research that promotes healthier aging and furthers our understanding of the aging process and its associated diseases and disorders;
Building a cadre of new and young scientists in aging research and geriatric medicine;
  Offering opportunities for scientists and physicians to exchange new ideas and knowledge about aging; and
  Promoting an awareness among the general public about the importance of aging research.
The AFAR Approach to Aging Research
  • Overhead and administrative expenses are less than 13% of AFAR's budget
  • Nearly 95% of grant recipients stay in the field
