Criminal Enforcement Program
Area and Resident Offices
The Agency's criminal program is a 3-tier national (non-delegated) program -
operating through a Headquarters, Area Office and Resident Office infrastructure. The Criminal
Enforcement program has broken the U.S. territories down into 16 areas of responsibility or "Area Offices"
and then called them by their location name ... Boston Area Office, Philadephia Area Office, etc.
Within those geographic areas, further assignment of duties has been given to Resident offices.
EPA CID Area Offices are generally co-located, for operational
purposes, with each of the 10 EPA regions, although there are
exceptions. Because of the size of some of the EPA Regions, the
criminal program has further divided those regions and established
a 2nd and 3rd Area Office to better align our workload. Resident
Offices are smaller offices assigned to 1 of the 16 Area Offices.
