Good Laboratory Practice Standards

EPA's Good Laboratory Practice Standards (GLPs) compliance monitoring program, through laboratory inspections and data audits, assures the quality and integrity of test data submitted to the Agency under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). This data is used by the Agency to regulate pesticides and industrial chemicals.

Import-Export Program

The Import-Export Program (IEP) controls international trade in hazardous waste for the United States. The United States has agreements with several countries, including Canada and Mexico, which provide for prior notification of shipment of wastes (both importing and exporting of wastes). EPA has issued regulations under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) which are binding on the regulated community. Annually, IEP processes over 1500 notifications, involving more than 8200 waste streams; collects from the United States Customs Service more than 20,000 export manifests documenting individual shipments of waste; and receives about 450 export annual reports from the regulated community.

Woodstoves

Residential wood heaters (i.e., woodstoves) cause or contribute significantly to air pollution which may reasonably be anticipated to endanger public health or welfare. On February 26, 1988, the EPA promulgated a rule (40 CFR Part 60, Subpart AAA) to control particulate emissions from new residential wood heaters.
