Personnel Announcement
President George W. Bush today announced that he has appointed
Walter B. Slocombe to be a member of the Commission on the
Intelligence Capabilities of the United States Regarding Weapons of
Mass Destruction. Mr. Slocombe served in the Department of Defense as
Under Secretary of Defense for Policy from 1994 to 2001; as Principal
Deputy Under Secretary for Policy from 1993 to 1994; as Deputy Under
Secretary for Policy Planning from 1979 to 1981; and as Principal
Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Security Affairs from 1977
to 1979.
Mr. Slocombe will replace Lloyd N. Cutler, who has stepped down for
personal reasons. Although Mr. Cutler will no longer be a member of
the Commission, he will serve as Of Counsel to the Commission and will
continue to contribute to its work.
