Plant Mycotoxin Research Unit (PMR)

PMR's mission is to reduce or eliminate mycotoxin contamination of foods by:

  • Inhibiting fungal growth and mycotoxin synthesis
  • Controlling major insect pests
  • Improving post-harvest processing to remove contaminated products

Emphasis is placed on aflatoxin contamination of tree nuts (almonds, pistachios and walnuts) and figs. Methods developed improve food quality, safety and exportability and are ecologically benign and conducive to technology transfer.

Our staff includes scientists with professional expertise in natural products chemistry, agricultural engineering, physics, entomology, microbiology, functional genomics, plant pathology, and molecular systematics.
