Research Project: Deep Tillage Requirements in Irrigated Cotton Production Systems

Location: Application and Production Technology Research Unit

Project Number: 6402-12130-001-01
Project Type: Specific C/A

Start Date: Sep 27, 2002
End Date: Sep 26, 2007

Objective:
To determine whether it is economical to include both subsoiling and irrigation in limited till cotton and cotton/corn rotation production systems in the Mississippi Delta.

Approach:
A series of reserch studies will be conducted to evaluate the impact of subsoiling on yield, crop quality, herbicide requirement, and water use efficiency when irrigation is utilized for cotton and cotton/corn rotation production systems. Data will be collected on cooperating farms to develop a database that will be used to develop whole farm economic analysis on the long term benefits of subsoiling in irrigated production systems.
