Challis Field Office Completes Cleanup of Ima Millsite Foundation and Removal of Heavy Metal Contamination
The
removal project went well, with 28 barrels of mixed heavy metal waste
transported to a treatment storage disposal facility. The heavy metal
waste, in the form of slag and ore, had remained for years next to a road
used by campers, hunters and recreationists accessing a nearby Forest
Service trailhead. Removal of the lead- and arsenic-bearing material was
the initial step in restoration work proposed for the Ima Mine area. |
