Definition
Exudate is fluid, such as pus, that leaks out of blood vessels into adjoining tissues. The fluid consists of cells, proteins, and solid materials. Exudate may ooze from incisions or sites of infection or inflammation. Update Date: 10/20/2003 Updated by: A.D.A.M. editorial.
