The Genetic and Rare Diseases Information Center is a centralized resource for more information about genetic and rare diseases.

Dr. Elaine Ostrander Dr. Elaine Ostrander Named as Head of NHGRI's Cancer Genetics Branch
Dr. Ostrander comes to NHGRI from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) in Seattle, where for more than a decade her laboratory has been a leader in mapping genes responsible for cancer susceptibility.

The National Human Genome Research Institute led the Human Genome Project for the National Institutes of Health, which culminated in the completion of the full human genome sequence in April 2003. Now, NHGRI moves forward into the genomic era with research aimed at improving human health and fighting disease.
