Visa Appointment System

The Non-Immigrant Visa Section of the United States Embassy operates under a visa appointment system (see below). However, the following visa types do not require an appointment:

  • Student visa applicants (for F visas) may appear for an interview without an appointment between the hours of 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, except U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago holidays. Applicants must bring their passport, completed visa application form (DS-156), supplemental application (DS-157) for males ages 16-45, contact information sheet (DS-158), and acceptance form I-20 from their school. Students may apply up to 90 days before the start of classes as indicated on the I-20, but the Embassy will not issue a visa until 30 days before that date.

  • Exchange program applicants (for J visas) may appear for an interview without an appointment between the hours of 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, except U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago holidays. Applicants must bring their passport, completed application form (DS-156), supplemental application (DS-157) for men aged 16-45, contact information sheet (DS-158), and form DS-2019 indicating acceptance into an approved exchange program.

  • Crewmember applicants (for D visas) may appear for an interview without an appointment between the hours of 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, except U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago holidays. Applicants must bring their passport, completed application form (DS-156), supplemental application (DS-157) for males ages 16-45, and their employment contract.

  • Petition-based visa applicants (for H, L, and P visas) may appear for an interview without an appointment between the hours of 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, except U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago holidays. Applicants must bring their passport, completed application form (DS-156), supplemental application (DS-157) for males ages 16-45, and a copy of the approved petition and any other supporting documentation.

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT

  1. Pay the application fee (US$100 or TT equivalent - currently TT$630) at any branch of TT Post.

  2. Call the telephone number listed on the receipt for an appointment. Provide the operator with the receipt number, applicant’s name, passport number and any additional information requested. The operator will then give the caller an appointment time and date to appear for an interview, and a confirmation number.

Same day appointments cannot be accommodated. In most cases, visas will be processed and passports returned via TT Post within two business days after applicants pay the courier fee (TT$17). TT Post has a bureau within the Consular Section for your convenience.

NOTE: Submission of any fraudulent document may render you permanently ineligible for a visa to the United States.
