Small Grants for Exploratory Research (SGER)

Considers proposals for small-scale, exploratory, high-risk research in all scientific fields normally supported by the BIO Directorate. These proposals are internally reviewed. Grants are non- renewable, are normally made for one year, and are substantially less than the Program's average award amount. Occasionally, awards may be made for up to two years. Proposers must contact the relevant disciplinary program officer before submission to determine whether or not the proposed work meets the guidelines, if SGER funding is likely to be available, or if the idea should be considered for submission as a fully-reviewed proposal. Additional information regarding Small Grants for Exploratory Research can be found in the Grant Proposal Guide
