A Satellite Primer on Tuberculosis

Videotapes of the course, A Satellite Primer on Tuberculosis, are available for purchase. The videotapes should be used as a supplement to the Self-Study Modules on Tuberculosis. (For more information on the print-based modules, call (404) 639-8135.) Participants should work through each print-based module prior to viewing the corresponding videotape. Each videotape session is approximately 90 minutes.

The target audience for this training program is entry-level public health TB workers with little or no background in TB. This training is also appropriate for staff who are responsible for TB activities in correctional facilities, drug treatment centers, migrant clinics, nursing homes, homeless shelters, and other facilities.

Transmission and Pathogenesis of Tuberculosis - Originally broadcast May 4, 1995; faculty presenter: Paula Fujiwara, MD, MPH. Provides information on the history of TB, how TB is spread from person to person, and how TB disease develops in the body.

Epidemiology of Tuberculosis - Originally broadcast May 11, 1995; faculty presenter: Eugene McCray, MD. Provides information on recent trends in TB in the United States and describes groups of people who are at higher risk for TB infection and disease.

Diagnosis of Tuberculosis Infection and Disease - Originally broadcast May 18, 1995; faculty presenter: William Bailey, MD. Provides information on the diagnostic procedures used for TB infection and disease including the tuberculin skin test, physical signs and symptoms, chest x-ray, and laboratory tests.

Treatment of Tuberculosis Infection and Disease - Originally broadcast June 1, 1995; faculty presenter: Nancy Dunlap, MD, PhD. Provides information on treatment recommendations for both TB infection and disease and explains possible side effects of the medications.
