These files contain data collected by the Mine Safety and Health
Administration (MSHA) under Part 50 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR
30 Part 50). Original
raw data files are released to the public and
are available from the MSHA web site
five times each calendar year—1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter, 4th
quarter (preliminary), and a final closeout set. As a convenience, the
files have been converted to two popular formats: dBase IV (these files can also
be opened with Microsoft Access or Excel) and SPSS (which
includes labels and coding information). Although some computed
convenience fields have been added, no new data have been added, and no
corrections have been made to the information provided by MSHA. Because
these data have been obtained from sources outside of NIOSH, they are provided on
an "as-is" basis. All files are in self-extracting, compressed DOS/Windows
EXE format.
