Lawmaker Creates Award to Honor Outstanding Community Service

(Click here to fill out an online nomination form)

BURNSVILLE, MN – March 9, 2004 - Congressman John Kline today announced the kick-off of ‘Star of the North,’ a new effort to recognize outstanding community service throughout Minnesota’s Second Congressional District.

Residents are encouraged to nominate neighbors, family, and friends who are involved in ongoing service to their community. Winners will be selected by a panel of community leaders on the basis of their demonstrated and continuing community service achievements. Each year, one adult and one student each from Carver, Dakota, Goodhue, Le Sueur, Rice, Scott, and Washington Counties will receive the ‘Star of the North’ Award. Congressman Kline will host a ceremony to honor recipients with a Special Congressional Citation in September.

In announcing this new initiative, Kline noted, “Community service is a time-tested American tradition.  The ‘Star of the North’ program will be a wonderful opportunity to recognize the most valuable contribution anyone can make to our community: a helping hand.

If you are interested in nominating someone you know for the ‘Star of the North’ award, please contact Marcus Esmay in Congressman Kline’s Burnsville office at (952) 808-1213 or click here to fill out an online nomination form.
