DUTIES:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Director, National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP). The Director, NCCDPHP is accountable for demonstrable health impact achieved by the program. In cooperation with the senior leadership of the Coordinating Center for Health Promotion, the Director has broad operating authority and is responsible for overall planning, direction, and management of the Center; is accountable for executing program goals that are results-oriented; and ultimately is the responsible official charged with ensuring the scientific rigor of the Center’s activities. The mission of this Center is to provide national leadership in areas of health promotion and chronic disease prevention by conducting public health surveillance, epidemiologic studies, and behavioral interventions; disseminating guidelines and recommendations; and assisting state health and education agencies to increase their capacity to prevent chronic diseases and promote healthful behaviors. The Director, NCCDPHP will coordinate with entities outside CDC, including DHHS, the Office of Management and Budget, state, and local health departments, community and faith-based organizations, business and industry; relevant professional organizations (e.g., medical, scientific), and international health organizations and ministries, as appropriate.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess an M.D., Ph.D., or other earned doctorate in disease prevention or related health sciences, public health, epidemiology, or social or behavioral science. The applicant must demonstrate: (1) the ability to articulate a coherent scientific vision for the future; (2) a high degree of expertise and health prominence, and a distinguished record of accomplishments in the field such that the individual readily commands the respect of national and international scientific health communities; (3) knowledge and skill to direct and manage a large Federal health protection organization, with an emphasis on research and development that is applied to increase health impact; (4) the ability to efficiently and effectively execute health impact goals through strategic use of resources; (5) ability to recruit, retain, and evolve a diverse health protection workforce that will meet future national and global needs; (6) experience in developing and implementing successful national, state, and local policies, programs, and research in the field; and (7) the ability to interact or interface with high level government officials, the scientific and academic community, national and international health related organizations, diverse communities and non-governmental groups and the public at large.
