Safer Homes Save Lives
FEMA joined the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH), the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas and other prevention partners in unveiling the first Texas “Blueprint for Safety” house as part of the home builders’ annual parade of homes.

The house, built in Frisco, Texas, uses roof shingles able to resist damage from up to baseball-size hail, roll-down shutters on upper story windows, metal fasteners that solidly connect roof trusses to walls and a tornado safe room. Homeowners can incorporate cost-effective mitigation techniques into new and existing homes. For more information, see www.fema.gov or www.flash.org.
