We are seeking the following information, which will be used to construct your story and support our database of search categories. Please visit the FEMA Visitor Privacy and Security Notice.

Your Story

  • Project Background
  • Mitigation Measure Employed
  • Project Benefits and Benefit Amount Calculation
  • Is the project ongoing? (yes/no)
  • Start and End Date (month/year)

Detail Info

  • Type of Mitigation Project
  • Type of Hazard
  • Project State & County
  • Was the mitigation effort a result of a Federal disaster declaration?
  • If a disaster occurred, has another disaster tested the value of this mitigation effort?
  • Project Cost (actual or estimated)
  • Funding Source(s)
  • Funding Recipient (e.g., local government)
  • Name of Funding Recipient
  • Project Benefit Amount (actual or estimated)
  • Project Sponsor - such as non-profit organization or private business (optional)
  • Attachments such as URLs, photos, and/or other supporting documents (optional)

When you submit your story, you are encouraged to provide links to related web sites and to include as many as 5 photographs, text documents, PDFs, or maps that offer further information about the project or the organizations that provided necessary support.

When your success story is received, it will be reviewed for completeness and reserved for possible future viewing on FEMA's web site through a searchable database. If we have questions concerning any of the information you have submitted, we may contact you via email. Additionally, FEMA may choose to highlight your success story as a model success story during briefings with the U.S. Congress and the media. Your story may encourage others to support similar mitigation efforts.

When submitting your success story, you may find that some of the necessary information (e.g., project cost) is not available at the time of submission. You may submit this, or any other previously unavailable information, via email whenever it becomes available. Updates and corrections to your success story, as well as any information/attachments not included when you initially submit the story, can be sent to us at mitsuccess@fema.gov. We will add them to your story for you (please be sure to include the Project Title in your email).

The database can be searched by a variety of categories (e.g., state, hazard type, project type). This capability will help the many people who visit the FEMA site find success stories that are relevant to them and their communities.
