New Industries in NAICS

The table at the right lists some of the 350 new industries being separately recognized for the first time with NAICS. A few of these industries reflect "high tech" developments such as fiber optic cable manufacturing, satellite communications, and the reproduction of computer software. More of them recognize less technological changes in the way business is done: bed and breakfast inns, environmental consulting, warehouse clubs, pet supply stores, credit card issuing, diet and weight reduction centers. Taken together, these new industries provide an interesting review of the profound ways our economy has changed over recent years.
