Program Announcements
The ESIE Program Solicitation and Guidelines are the best source of
information for all our programs. You can download the Guidelines (NSF 01-60) from the
Publications section of NSF's website, or request a hardcopy by sending an
e-mail to paperpubs@nsf.gov.
Instructional Materials Development
IMD supports development of comprehensive curricula and supplementary
materials that change classroom instruction. All IMD-supported materials must
be aligned with standards for content, instruction, and assessment developed by
the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and the National
Research Council (NRC). IMD also supports the development of embedded and
large-scale student assessments that align with standards, as well as
implementation and dissemination projects that provide information and
technical assistance to decision-makers responsible for selecting and
implementing curricula. To get more information on this program, view the IMD
Section of the ESIE Program Solicitation and Guidelines, or write to ESIE.
Informal Science Education
ISE activities provide rich and stimulating opportunities outside formal
school settings, where individuals of all ages, interests, and backgrounds
increase their appreciation and understanding of science, mathematics, and
technology. ISE emphasizes collaborations between informal and formal education
communities, increased access for individuals from underrepresented groups, and
increased involvement of parents in their children's education. To get more
information on this program, view the ISE section of the ESIE Program
Solicitation and Guidelines, or write to ESIE.
Teacher Enhancement
TE projects provide professional development opportunities to broaden and
deepen the disciplinary and pedagogical knowledge of teachers, improving their
ability to provide rich and challenging education in science, mathematics, and
technology. Approximately 50% of the program's resources are invested in Local
Systemic Change (LSC) projects that implement sustainable reform in entire
school systems. TE also supports projects to develop educational leadership,
professional materials for teachers, and technology efforts that build
communities of learners. To get more information on this program, view the TE
section of the ESIE Program Solicitation and Guidelines, or write to ESIE.
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
The PAEMST program rewards career excellence for teachers at both elementary
and secondary grade levels from each state and four U.S. jurisdictions. NSF
administers the PAEMST program on behalf of the White House. To get more
information on this program, please visit the Presidential Awards website or write to ESIE.
