Will Women Be Deciding Factor in 2004 Election?

New York -- The 2004 U.S. presidential election "may be the long awaited election where women's votes will make the difference," says political scientist Ethel Klein, a longtime campaign strategist and expert on the women's vote. For the first time since 1980, the presidential candidates are statistically tied going into the final days of the campaign, Klein said at a press briefing October 28, and with 4 million to 6 million more female voters than male voters, courting the women's vote has become a crucial element of both the Bush and Kerry campaigns. (complete text)

Bush, Kerry Both Likely to Keep Higher Profile for Africa
Washington -- No matter who wins the too-close-to-call U.S. presidential election, Africa will most likely be a winner, former U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia David Shinn told an audience at West Virginia University October 27. Speaking just a week before the November 2 ballot, which pits Republican President Bush and Democratic Party challenger Senator John Kerry in a head-to-head race that focuses on the global war on terror and U.S. intervention in Iraq, Shinn saw the two candidates as being very close in their perspectives on Africa.(complete text)
