Air Quality Forecasts

The South Carolina Department of Environmental Control (DHEC) - Bureau of Air Quality issues Ground Level Ozone Forecasts each day between May 1st and September 30th. These forercasts are for the Midlands and Upstate of South Carolina and the Central Savannah River Area of South Carolina and Georgia.

The National Weather Service Office in Columbia relays these forecasts prepared by DHEC on NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts. The DHEC Ground Level Forecast is also included on the evening Preliminary Climate Reports issued around 530PM.

When the DHEC Bureau of Air Quality Ground Level Ozone forecast is in the "Unhealthy" (Orange or Red) Category, our office relays the information in a special Air Quality Index message broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio.
