Hospitalizations for Nontraumatic Lower Extremity Amputation

Age-Adjusted Hospital Discharge Rates for Nontraumatic Lower Extremity Amputation per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Race, United States, 1980-2002

From 1980 through 2002, the age-adjusted rate of hospital discharge for nontraumatic lower extremity amputation (LEA) per 1,000 persons with diabetes was higher among blacks than among whites.  In 2002, the age-adjusted LEA rate per 1,000 persons with diabetes was 5.3 among blacks and 4.1 among whites.
