Visual Impairment

Age-Adjusted Prevalence of Visual Impairment per 100 Adults with Diabetes, by Race/Ethnicity, United States, 1997-2002

Although the limited number of years that the data are available limits analysis of trend, no major changes in the age-adjusted prevalence of visual impairment are apparent for any of the racial/ethnic groups examined. Throughout the time period, blacks tended to have a slightly higher prevalence of visual impairment than whites or Hispanics. In 2002, the age-adjusted prevalence of visual impairment was 19.7% for whites, 20.3% for Hispanics, and 22.7% for blacks.
