National Science Board to Meet (Oct. 15-16)

Media are invited to attend open sessions of the National Science Board (NSB) meeting on Oct. 15-16, 2003, at the National Science Foundation (NSF) headquarters, 4201 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Va. This is one of the NSB's regular meetings related to the activities of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and national science and engineering policy issues.

Among the two-day meeting's highlights will be presentations on the current status and future outlook on foreign scientist and engineer visas, including issues related to students educated in the United States as well as researchers who conduct studies here. Speakers will include George H. Atkinson, the Department of State's science and technology advisor to the Secretary, and Edward J. Ramotowski, director of the department's Office of Public and Diplomatic Liaison for Visa Services. Shana Dale, Chief of Staff and General Counsel of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, will also address the board.

Public sessions and various NSB committees and task forces are scheduled for rooms 1235 and 1295 at NSF headquarters. (Visitors should check in at security desk, 9th & Stuart Streets entrance – for directions, see: http://www.nsf.gov/home/visit/visitjump.htm ).
