NSF Expert Joins Virginia Nanotechnology Panel
Science and technology on the scale of a nanometer--one
billionth of a meter--is revolutionary. Nanotechnology
refers to the ability to manipulate individual atoms
and molecules in order to build machines on the scale
of human cells or to create materials and structures
from the bottom up, building in desired properties.
Mihail Roco, senior advisor for nanotechnology at the
National Science Foundation (NSF), joins Sen. George
Allen (R-Va.), other federal officials and researchers
from Virginia universities and laboratories to examine
the future of nano-scale research, funding prospects
and potential impacts. The meeting is sponsored by
Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology and the
Virginia Space Grant Consortium.
