W. Va. Senator Byrd and NSF Director Colwell to Deducate Green Bank Telescope
Sen.
Robert Byrd, D-W.Va. and National Science Foundation Director Rita Colwell
will dedicate the Green Bank Telescope -- the world's largest fully steerable
radio telescope -- at a ceremony on August 25 in Green Bank, W. Va. The
telescope, which is designed to collect and analyze minute radio signals
from distant stars and galaxies, is funded by the National Science Foundation
(NSF) and operated by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO)
and Associated Universities, Inc., a Washington D.C.- based not-for-profit
corporation. Reporters are invited to attend the dedication and tour the
facility.
