NSF Offers New Customized Info Delivery

Notice to Journalists and "NSFNEWS" Listserve Subscribers

The National Science Foundation (NSF) now offers a new information delivery system called Custom News service through the NSF web site. Custom News is a web-based and e-mail-based system that automatically alerts you, via e-mail, about new NSF publications and information. Its flexible, easy-to-use sign-up form on the NSF home page allows you to receive the kinds of information that most interest you. (Those without web access may subscribe by calling the NSF Information Desk, 703-306-1234.) Custom News alerts you to new publications and provides links to electronic copies that can be downloaded or printed. It also delivers the full text of news materials such as press releases, tipsheets, and advisories.

To subscribe to this free service, you need an Internet e-mail account. (Your e-mail address is used as your log-in I.D.) Go to http://www.nsf.gov. Click on the Custom News button on the toolbar at the bottom of the home page. After providing your Internet e-mail address, you will be prompted to create a profile of NSF publications you want to know about or receive.

NSF plans to replace the current "NSFnews" listserve with the Custom News option early in 1998 for all recipients of "NSF news" materials. If you subscribe to Custom News, you may receive duplicate materials for a time, until "NSFnews" is discontinued. We encourage this overlap, however, as a means to analyze the effectiveness of Custom News. NSF plans to survey users of the "NSFnews" listserve before discontinuing, to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our media customers. Meanwhile, please send any feedback or opinions regarding Custom News or "NSFnews" to the contacts listed at the end of this advisory.
