National Science Board to Honor Public Service Awardees and Science
Leaders
The National Science Board (NSB) will host a ceremony and reception
on May 6 honoring annual winners of key awards in science and
engineering, and public service. The awards will be presented at the
National Press Club in Washington, D.C.
Primatologist Jane Goodall and Public Broadcasting's NOVA television
series, produced by WGBH, Boston, will receive the NSB's first annual
Public Service Award for major contributions toward public understanding
of science and engineering.
Robert M. White will receive the science board's Vannevar Bush Award
for five decades of scientific research and statesmanship. M.I.T. chemist
Christopher Cummins will receive the Alan T. Waterman Award, the National
Science Foundation's highest honor for young researchers in science and
engineering.
The media are welcome to attend the ceremony at 6 p.m. and the reception,
scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Media availabilities and/or one-on-one interviews
with awardees will take place for about 30 minutes at the start of the
reception within the main ballroom on the far right of the ceremony stage.
