NSF Director to Address Impact, Benefits of Information Technology on Science, Economy

National Science Foundation (NSF) Director Rita Colwell will address the impact of the Information Revolution on the U.S. in a speech to the National Press Club entitled, "Beyond Bar Codes: Finding Wisdom in the Age of Information." Colwell will outline the need to shape computer technology toward a future of societal benefits and assess its impact socially and economically.

Colwell's speech will take place during NSF's annual National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) '99 celebration. NSTW, now celebrating its 15th year, highlights the programs and partnerships that help bring science and technology to the American public. NSTW strives to heighten the awareness of the important role science and technology play in everyday living.
