MEDLARS® Management Section (MMS)
The primary focus of the MMS is database development, management, testing and quality assurance to foster expanded access of health information to health professionals and the general public.
MMS staff collablorate with National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC) staff in areas including:- development and refinement of search screens and new features of PubMed® and the NLM Gateway
- testing new versions of PubMed and the NLM Gateway
- entry of data into PubMed and the NLM Gateway
- development and maintenance of PubMed subset strategies
On an ongoing basis, MMS staff test for data quality and create web-based data, news, and update notifications for users.
Other Section activities include:
- managing NLM's data distribution program
- developing and delivering training programs and user documentation for PubMed and the NLM Gateway
- answering customer inquiries
- participating in UMLS®-related activities
- conducting usability studies on NLM products and services
- creating and maintaining NLM web pages
- publishing the Web-based NLM Technical Bulletin
- preparing Index Medicus
- coordinating activities between the Library and collaborating data producers
- converting NLM data into XML format
- supporting journal selection activities for MEDLINE®
- incorporating user feedback into product development
