Today marks the sixth anniversary of the Family and Medical Leave Act.
Six years ago today, many working people gained the legal assurance that they
could not be asked to choose between the jobs they need and the families they
love. And for these last six years, the FMLA has become an indispensable
benefit to working families helping Americans balance the demands of work and
family.
Given the tremendous success of the FMLA, the President and I believe
that it is time to broaden its coverage to protect more workers and to allow
workers to take time off to deal with other important family matters that they
face daily.
