Recent Acquisitions
2000 | 1999 | 1998 | 1997 | 1996
Annual acquisitions lists provide brief descriptions of materials
received by the division. They include information on the source
and extent of each receipt; whether it is a new collection or an
addition to an existing one; and whether the material is original
or a reproduction (generally microform) of materials held elsewhere.
Featured acquisitions: During the calendar year
2002 the Manuscript Division received the following new collections:
James Grant, Patsy Mink, Anthony Lewis, Rouben Mamoulian, Howard
Teichmann, and Milton Kessler. Significant additions to the following
collections were received: Philip Abelson, Clara Barton, James
Buchanan, Grover Cleveland, Lynn Margulis, Daniel Patrick Moynihan,
Ayn Rand, Hedrick Smith, and E. O. Wilson.
Current information
Announcements of significant acquisitions often appear in the Library
of Congress Information Bulletin or in press
releases. Brief descriptions of collections are entered
in the Library of Congress online
catalog upon receipt and updated after archival processing
has been completed.
Earlier acquisitions reports
The Manuscript Division has prepared acquisitions reports since
its earliest days. From 1943 to 1978 the division published acquisitions
lists and articles in the Quarterly Journal of the Library
of Congress (formerly titled Quarterly Journal of Current
Acquisitions). From 1979 to 1995 similar lists and essays were
published in Library of Congress Acquisitions: Manuscripts.
To obtain copies of essays published in reports earlier than 1996,
