ForewordOASDI Beneficiaries by State and County, December 1997, presents data on the number of persons receiving Social Security benefits and the amount of monthly benefits by type of benefit. Also shown are the number of men and women aged 65 or older receiving benefits. Data are shown for each county and summary data are shown by State. Because this report provides detailed information on the beneficiary population at the local level, it is a useful planning aid for the Social Security Administrationís regional and field offices, and for those providing information to Federal, State, and local government agencies and the public. This publication was prepared in the Division of Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Statistics and Analysis. Salvatore J. Gallicchio was responsible for programming and data processing. Rona M. Blumenthal compiled the data. This and other publications on the Social Security program are available on our Web site at www.ssa.gov/policy.
