FAQ
Cannot Find My Item in LocatorPlus When Searching By My Name
Question: I am a co-editor on a book (or other format item) that I found in LocatorPlus, but I could not find it when searching for my name. Why is this?
Answer:
-
- unlike articles (e.g. PubMed records), cataloging records are created following the rules and guidelines of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition Revised, 1998 (AACR2R) which serves as the current authority for descriptive cataloging at NLM
- - according to these rules, which NLM follows in preparing bibliographic records in NLM LocatorPlus, if a single statement of responsibility names more than three persons, performing the same function, or with the same degree of responsibility, as is the case with the record in question, only the first name is recorded
- - the remaining names which are associated with the title are represented by the cataloging convention of a mark of omission (...) and the addition of [et al.]
- - this is the reason your name is not listed in the cataloged bibliographic record in NLM LocatorPlus
- - this rule also means that only the first name listed in the statement of responsibility will serve as the searchable access point to that particular title
