.2004 Hurricane Season Notes

. The 2004 Houston/Galveston Hurricane Workshop was Tuesday, May 25th from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Pasadena Convention Center located on Fairmont Parkway near the intersection with Red Bluff in Pasadena. This new time (previous workshops used to be in the morning) was designed to make the workshop available to more citizens in southeast Texas. Vendors were open at 5 PM and the main program began at 630 pm.

The theme for this year's workshop was, "Will Forecasts Continue to Improve?" During the general session, the history of forecasting was discussed along with the effects of 2003's Hurricane Claudette on Matagorda County. Individual breakout sessions were offered on several topics that were of interest to the general public, private industry and emergency management.

This workshop was once again sponsored by the Houston/Galveston National Weather Service and the East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA). The workshop was free and open to all citizens along the upper Texas Gulf Coast.

.Hurricane Forecasting

While forecasting in itself is hard enough, forecasting hurricanes is by far more difficult. The intrepid Dr. William Gray of Colorado State University endeavors to do so. He and his team of researchers publishes a forecast and an updated forecast every year on what they think is going to happen. Here's the latest from Dr Gray, et al.
