National Diabetes Surveillance System

Overview

The CDC Diabetes Surveillance System collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on diabetes and its complications. This public health surveillance (disease tracking) of diabetes is critical to

  • Increase recognition of the disease
  • Identify high-risk groups
  • Develop strategies to reduce the economic and human cost of this disease
  • Formulate health care policy
  • Evaluate progress in disease prevention and control.

The current Diabetes Surveillance System updates data from previous reports and will also contain new surveillance topics.
