Welcome from the Director

Welcome to NPS.gov – home of the National Park Service and America’s national parks. If you can’t be at a national park, this is the next best place!

Please take some time to explore everything national parks have to offer. Each national park has a page that will introduce you to the park, activities, upcoming events and fun things for kids, like how they can become Junior Rangers. You can also find out how to help care for your national parks by working or volunteering with the National Park Service.

While most people think simply “national parks” when they think of the National Park Service – we do a lot more! The NPS works with communities to preserve and care for neighborhood treasures. We work with teachers to create unique opportunities for students to learn about history at the real places where events unfolded. Join with us to experience science coming alive and nature at some of the most amazing spots on earth. We even help you plan your own adventure with National Register of Historic Places travel itineraries.

I hope you find what you’re looking for and some things that surprise you! I welcome your comments and suggestions. Enjoy your visit to www.nps.gov. And, as always, I’ll see you in the parks!
