Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

CDC/ATSDR and the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day by hosting “Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Remember!  Celebrate!  Act!  A Day On, Not A Day Off!”  The event took place on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at CDC’s Roybal Campus in Atlanta, Georgia.

Dr. Julie Gerberding, CDC/ATSDR Director, opened with an update on the status of minority employee recruitment efforts being made by the agency.  The event featured a musical performance by Ms. Carmen Walker-Momon, a poem by Maya Angelou performed by Ms. Sharon A Martin, and keynote speaker Dr. Gene A. Ramsey.  Dr. Ramsey inspired the audience to “Rekindle the Dream” by having a personal vision and moving beyond hardship to realize it. Ms. Marie Young presented final remarks and closed the event.

Speakers:
Julie L. Gerberding, Director, CDC/ATSDR
Gebe A. Ramsey, Associate Professor, Alabama State University
Sharon A Martin, Public Health Advisor, NCIPIC
Marie Young, Supervisory EEO Specialist, OEEO
