SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG ADDICTION RECOVERY MONTH

In 2000, among persons aged 18 and older, American Indians and Alaska Natives were most likely to report past year dependence or abuse for any illicit drug or alcohol (10.0%), followed by multiracial individuals (9.8%), Hispanics/Latinos (7.0%), non-Hispanic whites (6.6%), non-Hispanics blacks (5.9%), Asians (3.6%), and Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders (3.5%).

The recovery month effort aims to promote the societal benefits of alcohol and drug use disorder treatment, laud the contributions of treatment providers and promote the message that recovery from alcohol and drug use disorders in all its forms is possible.
