569 American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) Tribes

skinny, horizontal, orange, yellow, brown, and turquoise American Indian artistic band by Sonny Del Castillo

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has cooperative agreements with 33 of the 569 AI/AN tribes to address issues such as cancer screening, tobacco use, and HIV within these communities.

CDC is attempting to establish dialogue with all AI/AN tribes. Toward this goal, OMH held open consultations with tribal leaders around the country in 2002. This first step in establishing dialogue is essential to beginning to understanding the unique needs of each tribe.
