Announcement

Teaching the Hudson Valley will award six to ten grants of up to $10,000 each to public and private schools in the region to create place-based lesson plans and curriculum units in partnership with sites of cultural, historic, or natural significance.

The grants are to help teachers integrate archives, art galleries, farms, historic sites, libraries, museums, parks, and other special places with core curriculum.

Schools in Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rensselaer, Rockland, Ulster, and Westchester counties may apply.

Proposals should involve elementary, middle, or junior high school (K-9) students and at least two partner sites. Projects may be interdisciplinary or focus on a single area, such as art, geography, or science, and should:

Teaching the Hudson Valley is an education initiative of the National Park Service, Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area and Hudson River Valley Greenway in partnership with the Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist College and NY State Dept. of Environmental Conservation.
