Lowell National Historical Park Kids Activities at the park
FOR KIDS
Visit our new Children’s Corner in the park’s Visitor Center. Participate in hands-on activities to explore Lowell’s technology through gears and pulleys, read a book together to learn about immigration, machinery, and much more. Free.

Discover the story of Lowell’s mills, their machinery, and their workers during your visit to the Boott Discovery Trail at the Boott Cotton Mills Museum. Try your hand at carding, spinning, drawing-in, and weaving. Experience the roar of a 1920s weave room and learn what working in a textile mill was like. Available during regular museum hours. Free with museum entrance.

Boat and Trolley Tour Join a ranger on the Pawtucket to the River Tour, This shorter tour is recommended for families with young children and involves little walking.

Great Explorations Summer Day Camp Discover the roots of the American industrial revolution and explore the connections between science and history through water! Have fun and make new friends! Each camp runs for one week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. during July and August. Pre-registration required.

Hands-on Programs for Groups Weave cloth on a four-harness loom, test waterwheels, work on an assembly line, or become an inventor. Hands-on workshops for groups, ages 9 and up, are offered Monday through Friday during July and August.

Junior Ranger Program

During your visit to Lowell National Historical Park pick up a Junior Ranger Activity Booklet at either the Visitor Center or the Boott Cotton Mills Museum. As you explore the park, complete the series of activities presented in the booklet. Return it to a ranger at the desk before you leave and become a Junior Ranger - badge, certificate, and all! Answers to the activities can be found throughout the park. Free.
